About Kenneth
Ken Rugeti provides consulting and expert testimony in the areas of commercial damages, forensic accounting and valuation. Mr. Rugeti has testified in numerous trials in U.S. District court, Bankruptcy court, State court and both U.S. and international arbitration. Committed to high standards of service across the profession, he currently serves as chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (“AICPA”) Forensic & Litigation Services committee. Mr. Rugeti frequently serves as a neutral, either by stipulation or under court-appointment as an expert or referee.
Mr. Rugeti has nearly three decades of experience addressing financial disputes in a wide range of industries, from small mediated matters to multibillion-dollar litigation. In addition to his role with the AICPA, he currently serves on the Steering Committee for California Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (“CalCPA”) Forensic Services Section and previously served as the chair of CalCPA’s Economic Damages Section.
Mr. Rugeti has addressed a wide variety of damages claims, including those stemming from alleged intellectual property infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract, false advertising, business interruption, wrongful termination, personal injury and wrongful death. As discovery has become increasingly complex, his extensive experience with financial data helps counsel identify reliable and efficient evidence to determine the existence and magnitude of losses.
Mr. Rugeti has a broad base of forensic accounting experience that includes the reconstruction of financial data for purposes of measuring income, analysis of issues related to financial contract compliance, assessment of the accuracy of private company financial statements and investigation of fraud allegations. In these capacities, he has worked for judges, boards of directors, business owners, public and private companies, trustees and trust beneficiaries.
Mr. Rugeti has analyzed the value of businesses, ownership interests, derivatives, stock-based compensation, intangible assets and income streams. He is knowledgeable not only in the methods of valuation, but in the often nuanced application of these methods to matters such as business acquisitions, shareholder and partner disputes, financial reporting and marital dissolution.
