Basil Imburgia is the Leader of the North America Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment. Mr. Imburgia has more than 30 years of experience providing forensic accounting and financial and economic analysis to attorneys in litigation and 40 years of accounting experience. His experience includes deposition, arbitration, mediation and trial testimony. He has also acted a neutral arbiter in accounting and post-acquisition disputes.
Mr. Imburgia has advised on matters involving accounting and auditing issues, patent, false advertising, trademark, trade secret and copyright disputes, breach of contract, derivative products and banking litigation, counterfeiting disputes and valuation of entities. Additionally, he is experienced in investigating and identifying underpaid royalties and fraudulent payments, fair presentation of financial statements, securities and financial reporting investigations, insurance claims and alter-ego matters. Mr. Imburgia has also calculated damages, such as lost profits, reasonable royalties, excess costs, price erosion, loss of business value and loss of brand equity. He has additional experience with M&A due diligence, IPOs, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) analysis and valuations.
Mr. Imburgia has provided expert witness testimony on matters involving real estate disputes, royalty disputes, wrongful termination, alter-ego, taxable income and bankruptcy, as well as trade secrets, breach of contract, securities, copyrights, GAAP issues and post-acquisitions in U.S. federal and state courts for trials, arbitrations and depositions. Mr. Imburgia’s industry experience includes real estate, retail, apparel, textiles, utilities and manufacturing. He has also worked extensively across healthcare, hospitality, consumer electronics, computer software, telecommunications, brokerage and banking.
Prior to its acquisition by FTI Consulting, Mr. Imburgia was a Partner in KPMG’s Forensic Services practice. Preceding this role, he was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Imburgia has been an instructor of training courses on damages, accounting and auditing, intellectual property and forensic accounting concepts, approaches and techniques. He has taught courses at a variety of institutions and conferences, including Financial Statements in the Court Room for Federal and State Court Judges, various American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”) Litigation Services Conferences and various New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (“NYSSCPA”) Litigation and Fraud Conferences.
Mr. Imburgia holds a B.S. from LIU Post School of Professional Accountancy. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and a Certified Fraud Examiner. Mr. Imburgia is a member of the AICPA, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the NYSSCPA, where he also served as Chairperson of the Litigation Services Committee in 2000 and 2001. Additionally, he is a member of the AICPA’s M&A disputes task force.
