Jim Robinson specializes in advising management and stakeholders of troubled companies in both formal and informal restructurings in Canada and the United States. Based in Toronto, Mr. Robinson has extensive expertise leading complex financial advisory projects and cross-border restructurings, executing stakeholder negotiations, acting in an interim management capacity, and developing recapitalization and realization strategies.
Mr. Robinson has a wide range of experience having advised both public and privately owned enterprises in several industries including retail, media production and distribution, mining, real estate, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, steel, hospitality, gaming and lease financing.
Mr. Robinson is a trusted advisor whose public experience in recent years includes Just Energy (CCAA Monitor), Sears Canada (CCAA Monitor), GNC Canada (CCAA Information Officer), Payless ShoeSource Canada (CCAA Monitor), U.S. Steel Canada and Essar Steel Algoma (Financial Advisor to the United Steelworkers) and Kew Media Group (BIA Receiver and Manager). Prior to formal proceedings, Mr. Robinson acted as financial advisor to each company, senior lending syndicate or stakeholder group.
Mr. Robinson was recognized as an Emerging Leader Award Winner (2022) by The M&A Advisor, which recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of M&A, financing and turnaround professionals in North America under the age of 40.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Robinson was a Senior Manager in the restructuring practice of Deloitte Restructuring Inc. in Toronto. Mr. Robinson holds an Honors Business Administration degree graduating with distinction from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He is a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.
