Michael Khoury specializes in forensic technology, cybersecurity, electronic discovery and dispute advisory, bringing more than 20 years of industry experience. Previously, Michael served as a partner and the national leader for the forensic technology division of a Big Four firm, where he specialized in digital forensics, cyber incident response recovery and readiness and electronic discovery services. He assists organizations in effectively responding to and recovering from cyber-related incidents by leveraging his expertise in both incident response and digital forensics. Michael is frequently retained as an expert witness in matters requiring the application of computer forensic skills to provide answers to legal and investigative cases.
Michael’s focus areas include investigating data breaches, IP theft, breaches of confidentiality, employee misconduct and workplace disputes, as well as financial fraud. He has also spearheaded complex e-discovery assignments related to commercial litigation, royal commissions, cyberbreach reviews, regulatory notices and parliamentary inquiries.
Michael has advised clients on high-profile investigations assignments in the corporate, government and legal fields. He has led a range of matters as an independent expert witness and consulting expert in the financial services, healthcare, energy, retail and insurance industries.
Michael has provided written and oral evidence as a testifying expert in criminal and civil proceedings and arbitrations. He has also led and managed civil and criminal-based search warrants on behalf of government bodies and law firms in local and multijurisdictional territories. Additionally, Michael is well-versed in preparing and delivering analysis results to state and federal courts.

- Marianne Haverkort v. Qantas Airways: Appointed as independent expert for Qantas Airways Limited in a case involving allegations of misleading and deceptive conduct; submitted an expert report in these proceedings
- The University of Sydney v. ObjectiVision Pty Limited: Appointed as the independent expert for the University of Sydney; submitted expert and joint expert reports in a copyright dispute involving the theft of source code
- Data Processors Pty Limited v. O’Toole: Performed a cyber investigation into allegations of unauthorized data access and transmission to external sources, including the use of sophisticated software and potential syndicate links
- Mirus Australia Pty Ltd v. Nicholas James Gage and Simon Wilson: Appointed as the independent expert on a restraint of trade and abuse of process matter where electronic documents and electronic activity records were deliberately deleted after proceedings commenced, giving evidence that led to findings of criminal contempt
- AEI Insurance Group Pty Ltd v. Craig Martin: Appointed as the independent expert on a matter related to allegations of breach of restraint and confidentiality; submitted an expert report in these proceedings
