About Nurena
Nurena Tarafder is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting‘s Indirect Tax practice in the UK. Nurena has more than 10 years of experience advising organisations on indirect tax matters and provides value-added tax (“VAT”) advice to a wide range of business sectors, including real estate, infrastructure, manufacturing and transport.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2023, Nurena held senior positions at Big Four firms and at a mid-tier firm, where she provided VAT advice to a wide range of businesses.
For most of her career, Nurena focused on advising the real estate sector, including real estate funds, developers and contractors across all asset classes.
Nurena has been involved in providing VAT advice to significant and high-profile projects, including the conversion of the former BBC studios to residential accommodation, the construction of infrastructure projects in the United Arab Emirates and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the ongoing advisory of a leading biomedical charitable research institute located in London.
Nurena holds an LL.B. in Law from the University of Warwick.

- Advising on VAT efficiency in relation to the sale of assets held within a property company/operating company structure
- Advising on the sale and operation of student accommodation
- Advising charities on the VAT treatment of grants
- Advising on VAT implementation and advisory projects in the United Arab Emirates and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Advising on VAT efficient structuring of engineering, procurement and construction (“EPC”) contracts
- Advising and supporting the largest London-based real estate investment trust (“REIT”)
- Advising a business on the restructuring of its leasing arrangements for its pension fund
- Providing transaction support for infrastructure projects
