Mr. Ballou has extensive experience driving quantifiable business process improvements through ground-up data modeling and visual report development. His project work has enabled real-time multisourced sales forecasting, optimized salesforce behaviors based on key product and customer attributes, increased control over order-to-cash cycles and reduced human processing time for key recurring analyses. His experience includes designing and building transaction-level financial models to support company operations and to inform due diligence activities, as well as designing and implementing data governance and master data management protocols to maintain the integrity of new analytics.
To achieve successful business process improvement, Michael focuses on using technology to unlock and access the potential of detailed source data. Michael works with business leaders to define areas where enhanced data operationalization would be most impactful, then sits down with functional stakeholders to define actionable requirements.
Throughout his career, Michael has also designed and executed multiple financial and operational system data reconciliations that have allowed him to better understand clients’ diverse underlying data structures. Utilizing system mappings, attribute hierarchies, and data governance rules, Michael builds refreshable SQL-based models that compare systems and scenarios to identify variances caused by mapping issues, input errors, forecast-to-actuals misalignment and poorly governed data processes. His experience includes presenting simple root-cause variance analysis to business stakeholders with targeted recommendations for remediation.
Mr. Ballou has also developed analytical testing methods to support financial fraud investigations at both financial services firms and corporations. Utilizing relational databases to analyze trading patterns, fixed income position movements, cash disbursements, approvals, vendor attributes and similar information, Michael has designed and executed tests to identify and track specific behavior patterns and data characteristics associated with fraudulent transactions and flag suspicious activity for review.
