About Selvin
Selvin Akkus-Clemens is a Managing Director in the Economic Consulting segment with more than 12 years of experience working as an economist for government agencies, consulting firms and nonprofits.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Akkus-Clemens worked for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) as a senior financial economist within the Office of Litigation Economics. Some of her engagements included market manipulation, unregistered dealers, corporate benefit assessments, investor harm calculations and cherry picking analysis. She was recognized with four SEC awards for individual contributions to litigation support and rulemaking.
Preceding this role, Dr. Akkus-Clemens served as a senior financial economist on post-implementation review projects within the Office of Economic and Risk Analysis at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (“PCAOB”) — a quasi-governmental organization under the SEC’s authority that oversees the audits of U.S.-listed public companies.
Additionally, Dr. Akkus-Clemens was a senior economist for Bates White Economic Consulting, where she worked on several antitrust cases involving mergers and monopolization matters. This work included analyzing large data sets, drafting expert reports, conducting econometric analysis, creating model simulations and working with the competition agency of a Middle Eastern country to develop the agency’s merger guidelines and review framework.
Dr. Akkus-Clemens earned a B.A. in Economics from Bogazici University, an M.A. in Political Economy from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Leonard Stern School of Business at New York University, where she specialized in competition economics and applied microeconomics. She is a native Turkish speaker.
