About Zhang
Zhang Zhang is a Senior Director in FTI Consulting’s Economic and Financial Consulting practice in Singapore. Mr. Zhang first joined FTI Consulting’s London office in November 2014 and was relocated to the Singapore office in December 2022.
At FTI Consulting, Mr. Zhang has assisted experts, led engagements and the production of reports in internal or regulatory investigations, mediations, arbitrations and litigations related to the trading, risk management and valuation of complex or illiquid financial instruments. He has assisted or led the production of expert reports in disputes before the courts of the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, Italy, Luxembourg, Guernsey and the Cayman Islands, as well as various tribunals under different rules such as the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (“UNCITRAL”) and International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”).
Mr. Zhang’s expertise extends to advising clients regarding the trading, risk management and valuation of complex or illiquid financial instruments in non-contentious situations such as M&A transactions or restructuring.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Zhang traded crude oil and short-term interest rate futures in a proprietary trading house. Mr. Zhang started his career in KPMG’s financial services audit division, where he worked on financial statement audits of a selection of large commercial and investment banks.
Zhang is a Chartered Accountant and a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (“ICAEW”).
Relevant Experience:
- Reviewed the process in which the parties calculated their respective close-out amounts and opined on the commercial reasonableness of close out amount in an International Swaps and Derivatives Association (“ISDA”) close-out dispute between a Swiss commodity trader and a Russian exporter
- Analysed potential anomalies in a large bank’s contributions to an Interbank Offered Rate (“IBOR”) benchmark; estimated the potential impact on the benchmark; and analysed the banks borrowing transactions conducted during the investigated period
- Evaluated the suitability of a high-net-worth investor’s portfolio of structured products, recommended by a global bank; valued derivative products on certain dates and calculated the counterfactual margin shortfalls had certain trades not occurred
- Explained the key differences between long-term supply contracts (“LTCs”) and hub traded products, and valued LTC features such as volume flexibility, which are often tailored and not present in hub traded products, for several LTC price review arbitrations
- Advised on the restructuring of a European retail energy supplier, which involved evaluating its energy hedge book, estimating customer compensation amounts and setting up a liquidation and compensation plan
